Search for the same company on Google, ChatGPT and Perplexity and you may encounter different pictures of the business. One result may lead with the company’s website, another with a news story, and another with a summary that includes customer criticism.
For reputation work, the useful question is where the picture is wrong or incomplete and what can improve it.
Compare the same task
A list of Google links and a generated answer are different presentations. If you want a fair comparison, be clear about what you are testing: ordinary search results, an AI summary within search or a conversational answer.
Use the same company name and question where possible. Record the date, relevant settings and whether sources are provided. Product features and outputs change, so a comparison needs a date and defined conditions.
Examine what each result emphasizes
Identify factual errors, outdated information and omissions. Read linked sources instead of relying on the summary alone. A critical answer may accurately reflect a source, misinterpret it or make a claim the source does not support.
Tone is worth recording, but it is not the only measure. A positive answer with the wrong services can mislead potential customers just as a stale answer can misrepresent the business.
Look for patterns across repeated checks
One response does not establish that a platform is consistently harsher on your brand. Use a small, relevant question set and repeat the checks. Record recurring claims and frequently appearing sources.
This helps separate a persistent reputation issue from variation in a single answer. It also reveals which corrections would benefit readers across several platforms.
Improve the sources and the search presence
Correct inaccurate information on your own pages and pursue changes to faulty third-party sources. Strengthen content that explains your services, experience and current work.
When damaging material cannot be removed, improve the visibility of more complete and relevant information. Track search prominence separately from changes in generated answers so the report explains what actually improved.
Choose a response based on the problem
A mistaken identity calls for clear identifying information and corrections. An old controversy dominating the results calls for a broader account of the business today. Missing expertise calls for better documentation and visibility of the work.
RMG addresses those underlying problems rather than building a campaign around which platform gave the friendliest answer on a particular day.
