You have changed companies, joined a board or built a new area of expertise. Yet an AI answer still introduces you by an old role. People researching you may never reach the part of your career you want to discuss now.

The problem often extends beyond one answer. Your current work may have a short announcement while years of older biographies continue to describe the previous position. Improving that picture means documenting the transition clearly and making your present work easier to find.

Explain the transition in your own biography

State your current role and when you began it. Identify earlier positions as former roles, with dates where helpful. Explain how your experience connects to the work you do now.

You do not need to erase a successful past career. You need a reader to understand what is current and why the transition makes sense.

Update biographies that people still encounter

Review company pages, professional profiles, speaker biographies and board listings. Where you can edit a profile, update it. Where another organization maintains it, send a precise replacement and ask for the change.

An old article may accurately describe your role at the time it was published. Keep that historical distinction clear when requesting updates; the objective is to fix outdated present-tense descriptions, not rewrite the past.

Give the new role substance

A title alone says little about your work. Describe your responsibilities, the problems you address and the expertise you bring. Publish useful thinking drawn from the new role as appropriate.

If the transition involves a new company or field, make those connections explicit. Readers should not have to infer that several different biographies describe the same person.

Check whether the introduction is catching up

Ask a consistent set of questions about your current role and experience, and save dated answers. Look for whether the former job is still presented as current and whether the new work receives a meaningful explanation.
